Restaurant Barr’s cutlery by Snøhetta and Table Noir, presented in Stonewashed and Satin Matte finishes.

About the series
Table Noir for Barr collection

for Barr, considered for the table

Table Noir for Barr brings the restaurant’s tactile identity into the hand. Designed by Snøhetta in collaboration with Table Noir, the cutlery combines recognisable cut-outs, balanced weight and carefully aligned forms with two distinct surfaces.

The Stonewashed Signature Finish reflects the darker, informal material world of Barr and is inspired by barley molecules. Satin Matte offers a softer, more classical stainless-steel expression while preserving the same substantial form.

Each place setting contains a table knife, table fork, table spoon and teaspoon.

Questions about Barr

Who designed Table Noir for Barr?

The collection was designed by Snøhetta in collaboration with the award-winning design brand Table Noir for Restaurant Barr in Copenhagen. The cutlery was conceived as an integral part of the restaurant's wider design, where architecture, furniture, materials, graphics and objects for the table were considered together. By bringing this shared design language directly into the hands of the guest, the collaboration between Snøhetta and Table Noir helped create a holistic experience in which the table setting became an essential part of Barr's overall identity.

What inspired the Stonewashed finish of Table Noir for Barr?

The Stonewashed Signature Finish was developed as an integral part of the holistic design created for Restaurant Barr. Its tactile surface draws inspiration from barley molecules — connecting the cutlery to one of the recurring references within Barr's Nordic culinary and visual universe. The finish gives the stainless steel its distinctive depth and softly textured character while also serving a practical purpose. Natural traces of use blend gracefully into the Stonewashed surface, allowing the cutlery to age beautifully through years of restaurant service. This longevity was part of the thinking behind the design: a surface made to be used, lived with and appreciated over time.

What is the story behind the cut-outs in the Barr cutlery?

The distinctive cut-outs in the Barr cutlery originate from the same visual language that runs through Restaurant Barr. Inspired by the molecular structure of barley, the forms were enlarged and translated into graphic and architectural elements throughout the restaurant before finding their way onto the table. In the cutlery, these barley-inspired forms appear as carefully placed cut-outs across the individual pieces, connecting knife, fork and spoon to the environment for which they were created. It is a small detail with a much larger story — from barley molecule to interior, and from interior to the objects held in the hand.

What material is the Table Noir for Barr cutlery made from?

The collection is made from stainless steel, chosen for the demands of restaurant service and for its ability to take on the distinctive surface treatments that define Barr. The Satin Matte version is specified in 18/10 stainless steel. Durability and longevity were central to the design from the beginning, creating tableware intended to be handled, used and enjoyed repeatedly over time. This functional quality forms part of the same holistic thinking that shaped the restaurant and the experience of dining at Barr.

Has the Table Noir for Barr cutlery received design recognition?

Yes. The Table Noir for Barr cutlery has received international design recognition, including a Red Dot Design Award, and has been nominated for design awards in both Denmark and Norway. Its recognition extends beyond awards: the cutlery is represented in the collection of Designmuseum Danmark and has been exhibited at the National Museum in Oslo as well as in Seattle. Created through the collaboration between Snøhetta and Table Noir for the dining experience at Restaurant Barr, the collection has travelled from the restaurant table into museums and exhibitions, becoming part of a wider conversation about contemporary Scandinavian design.
