The collection of tumblers and carafes was developed in crystal glass, with the tumbler constructed in two layers. A structured lower section gives the glass tactile depth, while the clearer upper section allows the contents to remain visually present. The contrast creates a design that shifts between transparency and substance — particularly expressive in the smoked version, where light, liquid and glass continuously change the appearance of the object. Function is integral to the design. The double-layered construction allows the tumbler to be used for both cold and warm drinks, making it as natural for water at the dining table as for coffee after the meal. What began as an exploration of the ideal coffee glass therefore became a more versatile object for the complete dining experience. Hand- and mouth-blown by European glassmakers, the collection also reflects the importance of craft within Table Noir’s approach to tableware. Small variations, the relief of the lower glass and the meeting between the two layers give each piece a physical presence that is difficult to achieve through purely industrial production. Rikke Malling’s design is restrained, but not anonymous. Its identity is found in the meeting of clear and structured glass, in the weight of the material and in the way light moves through the surface.

The result is tableware conceived not simply to contain a drink, but to become part of the atmosphere around it.
