How much of a leaf is needed before an object begins to feel organic?
Very little. Sambonet does not reproduce a leaf literally. Instead, Leaf is defined by a small curved detail that recalls the natural asymmetry and flowing direction of a leaf. One restrained gesture is enough to give the entire collection its identity.
Why did Sambonet choose asymmetry instead of perfect geometry?
Because nature rarely behaves with mathematical symmetry. Leaf takes inspiration from smooth, asymmetric natural forms, allowing the cutlery to feel softer and more dynamic while remaining visually controlled. The irregularity is subtle, but it prevents the silhouette from feeling static.
Can ergonomics and nature begin with the same curve?
In Leaf, they do. Sambonet connects the collection to ergonomics, softness and natural form, shaping a slim, curved and manageable handle. The detail that gives the cutlery its botanical character therefore also contributes to the way the object sits in the hand.
Why does Leaf feel contemporary rather than botanical?
Because the reference to nature is reduced to proportion and movement rather than decoration. There are no engraved leaves or floral motifs. Polished stainless steel and precise manufacturing transform the organic inspiration into a clean contemporary object.
What happens when nature is reduced to one line beside the plate?
The reference becomes quieter but more versatile. Leaf can sit among very different porcelain, glassware and table settings because its natural inspiration is embedded in the silhouette rather than applied to the surface. The design suggests nature without dictating the rest of the table.
