Wilfried Moll belonged to a generation of silversmiths for whom reduction was not an aesthetic gesture, but a discipline. His work was shaped by precision, proportion and an insistence that an object should reveal its quality through use rather than ornament. This approach found its most influential expression in his collaboration with Robbe & Berking. Beginning with Alta in the early 1980s, Moll developed a series of cutlery designs that translated the traditions of the silversmith into a distinctly modern language. Alta, Riva, Sphinx and Atlantic each explore this idea differently, yet all share the same underlying clarity: carefully controlled profiles, balanced proportions and surfaces allowed to speak without decorative interruption. Moll’s background as a practising silversmith is essential to understanding the character of these designs. The relationship between handle, weight and functional end is treated as a continuous whole, giving the pieces a sense of calm and physical assurance in the hand. The simplicity is never anonymous; it depends on subtle differences in curve, thickness and balance that only become fully apparent through use. His work also reflects influences beyond Germany. Moll spent part of his early career in Copenhagen and remained closely connected to Scandinavian silversmithing, while Bauhaus reduction and encounters with Japanese metalwork further informed his approach to form. In his cutlery for Robbe & Berking, these references are distilled rather than displayed. The result is tableware that feels both exact and effortless — objects in which craftsmanship, ergonomics and modernity become almost inseparable.

Atlantic Matt has a softly brushed surface that diffuses reflection and gives the stainless steel a quieter, more tactile character. The finish suits the simplicity of the design particularly well: light is softened rather than mirrored, allowing the profile, balance and proportions of each piece to come forward without becoming visually insistent.
Atlantic is made from high-quality 18/8 stainless steel and is dishwasher-safe. The material provides the durability required for regular use while preserving the precision of the collection’s form and finish. Even functional details are carefully considered; the Atlantic menu knife, for example, is balanced so that its blade does not rest directly on the tablecloth.
